SAE 40 engine oil sachet: the straight 40 grade in a pocket-sized pouch

This SAE 40 engine oil sachet holds 500ml of Greyhound G-Base SAE 40, the same mineral monograde sold in our 5L and 20L packs, in a sealed foil pouch that tears open and pours cleanly. It exists for one job: keeping the correct grade within reach when an engine needs a top-up and a half-used bottle is not an option.

Why a monograde and not a 15W-40

Older engines with wider bearing clearances, air-cooled engines and many stationary diesels were designed around a straight SAE 40. A monograde holds its film at high operating temperature without viscosity modifiers, which is why owner handbooks for these engines still specify it. If the handbook calls for SAE 40, this sachet is the right top-up. If it calls for a multigrade, use our 15W-40 CI4 instead.

How to use it

Check the dipstick with the engine off and level. Tear the notch, pour slowly through the filler, wait a minute, then check again. One sachet lifts most passenger car sumps from the low mark to roughly halfway. Do not mix grades if you can avoid it; if the engine is already on a multigrade, top up with the same multigrade.
