Greyhound Auto Retail supplies socket sets and individual sockets for automotive and workshop use, in metric and imperial sizes across 1/4, 3/8 and 1/2 inch drives, plus ratchets, extensions, universal joints and accessories.
Drive size is chosen by the job. A 1/4 inch drive suits small fasteners and confined engine bay work, 3/8 inch is the general-purpose middle ground, and 1/2 inch handles suspension, hub and chassis fasteners where real torque is needed.
Two details are worth understanding. Six-point sockets spread load onto the flats of a fastener and are far less likely to round a tight or corroded nut than twelve-point. And impact sockets, made from a tougher, thicker-walled steel with a black finish, are the only ones that should go on an impact wrench, since chrome sockets can shatter under hammering.
