A water based degreaser removes oil, grease and general grime using alkalinity and surfactants rather than solvent action, which makes it the safer and usually cheaper option for routine cleaning.

These products are supplied as concentrates, so the dilution rate does the work. A weak mix handles floors and light routine cleaning economically, while a stronger mix tackles engine bays, machinery and built-up grease. Compared with solvent cleaners they bring far less flammability risk, much less vapour in the workspace and easier disposal.

To get the best out of them, apply to a cool surface rather than a hot one, allow proper dwell time so the chemistry can lift the soil instead of scrubbing straight away, and rinse thoroughly. Do not let an alkaline cleaner dry on paintwork, polished aluminium or glass.
