Braking is the one system worth doing properly. Pads and discs wear together, so fitting new pads onto worn, lipped or heat-checked discs gives poor bite, uneven wear and often a pulsing pedal within a few thousand kilometres. Check disc thickness against the minimum figure stamped on the hub face before deciding to reuse them.
Bed new pads in gently over the first couple of hundred kilometres rather than braking hard from speed, replace brake fluid every two years since it absorbs moisture and loses boiling point, and always replace pads as a full axle set so braking stays balanced side to side.
