Greyhound Circulating Oil 68: rust-inhibited ISO VG 68 oil for bearings and circulating systems
Circulating Oil 68 from Greyhound is a rust and oxidation inhibited mineral circulating oil in the ISO VG 68 grade. Our blenders developed it for the conveyor and crusher bearings of copper crushing mills, because water, dust and scale get into the oil there every shift. As a result, the oil resists foaming, separates water quickly and protects steel against rust. In short, it keeps circulating systems clean and running for longer.
Every grade in the range carries an ashless sulphur-phosphorus system with extreme pressure capability. Therefore one product covers both plain circulating duty (the CL class) and circulating systems that also lubricate loaded gearing (the CLP class). In other words, you do not need a separate EP grade.
Where Circulating Oil 68 excels
ISO VG 68 sits in the light band of the range. Therefore it suits turbine-type and R&O circulating systems, high-speed spindle and bearing circulation, and machine tool circulating systems. In particular, it suits combined hydraulic and circulating systems, where one oil feeds both the pump and the bearings. VG 46 and VG 68 are the workhorses in this band. Typical duties include, for example:
- Ball mills and cement mills, as well as hot and cold strip mills and plate mills
- Conveyor bearings, especially in mining applications
- Plain and rolling-element bearings in both ferrous and non-ferrous mills
- Circulating systems where water contamination is a problem
- Large, slow-speed bearings in mixers and mills, for instance
- Ring-oiled, bath and pressure-fed systems alike
Key benefits
- Rust and corrosion protection: inhibitors protect the internal surfaces of the system, even when water is present.
- Demulsibility: water separates out instead of forming an emulsion, so you can drain it from the reservoir.
- Anti-foam: the oil releases entrained air quickly, which in turn protects pumps and controls.
- Oxidation resistance: mineral base stocks give long oil life. In addition, they form little sludge or deposit.
- Extreme pressure and anti-wear protection: the sulphur-phosphorus system carries loaded gears and therefore extends the service life of moving parts.
- Low pour point: easy start-up in cold conditions, without circulation problems.
- High filterability: suitable for very fine filters. Equally, it suits oil-mist systems, because it contains no lead compounds.

Choosing the right grade
The Greyhound circulating oil range runs from ISO VG 32 to 460. First, the light grades (32 to 68) suit turbine-type and R&O systems, high-speed spindles and combined hydraulic duty. Next, the medium grades (100 to 220) suit heavier bearings, general plant systems and paper machines. Finally, the heavy grades (320 to 460) suit rolling mill bearings and heavy gearbox circulation. What’s in the box
You receive one container of Greyhound Circulating Oil 68 in the size you select: 1 litre, 5 litre or 20 litre. Greyhound makes its lubricants in Europe and at ISO-certified plants worldwide, while Industrial Trading Portal (Pty) Ltd distributes them in Africa. Store the oil under cover and below 60 °C. Afterwards, take used oil to an authorised collection point.
